James Mullen’s practice includes strategic patent procurement, general counseling on infringement issues, and intellectual property due diligence studies. He also provides counseling on interference issues and reexamination practices and periodically participates in patent litigation.

Dr. Mullen counsels clients pursuing inventions in a variety of biotechnology-related areas, including molecular diagnostics, clean technology, cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, infectious disease therapeutics, small molecule screening protocols, and those seeking protection for novel nucleic acid and amino acid sequence protection.

Dr. Mullen has been recognized as a “Life Sciences Star” by LMG Life Sciences in 2012 and 2013. In 2008 and 2010, San Diego Daily Transcript named Dr. Mullen as a Top Attorney in Intellectual Property (Transactional).

 

BennettPhillip Bennett
Phillip is a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney and partner with EIP, an intellectual property law firm with offices in four cities in the United Kingdom and headquartered in London. Phillip recently opened EIP’s first U.S. office in San Diego and acts as the managing partner of that office. Prior to joining EIP in April 2013, Phillip was a partner with Knobbe Martens, and before that he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Edward J. Damich of the United States Court of Federal Claims.

Phillip has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patents relating to computer hardware and software, and has been involved in high profile patent litigation in both federal courts and United States International Trade Commission (USITC). He has particular expertise in microprocessor power management systems, wireless modem technologies, medical dispatch software, MPEG encoding, software visualization, telecommunications, financial transactions, payment processing, web security, and mobile technology. Prior to law school, Phillip worked as a software applications developer at Global Cloud, Ltd., an e-commerce solutions provider.

 

Brenden.GingrichBrenden S. Gingrich, Ph.D.

Dr. Gingrich’s practice focuses on the protection of intellectual property for the biotechnology and medical device industries.  His expertise includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, counseling on patent strategy, and intellectual property due diligence for both large and small businesses, as well as individual inventors. Dr. Gingrich currently represents clients with technology in the fields of antisense therapy, molecular biology and genetics, pharmaceuticals, intravascular ultrasound, blood purification, microfluid processing, and surgical fasteners.

During his doctoral studies, Dr. Gingrich studied the molecular basis of complex social behavior in rodents.  Prior to receiving his Ph.D., his undergraduate thesis focused on the study of artificial protein channels created using molecular biological techniques.
