Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the face of the legal and business world. These changes are upsetting long-held expectations for how business will proceed and how risk is allocated. This presentation explores issues that will arise for our clients or companies and practice tips to address these issues with particular focus on issues relating to ownership, open-source risks, licensing, and patent issues.

Rich Christiansen

Rich Christiansen focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling for various technologies, including electronics, medical devices, software, clean technology, and mechanical devices. Rich has helped his clients design, build, and rejuvenate IP portfolios to achieve business and legal objectives. Rich’s practice includes due diligence, clearance reviews, opinion work, licensing, and litigation. Before launching his legal career, Rich was involved in developing diesel injection systems at Siemens VDO. He was a design engineer at Raytheon Missile System, where he participated in developing and testing a new weapon system.

Fei Shen

Fei Shen is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the computer, software, and semiconductor industries with technical expertise on, but not limited to, network technologies, semiconductor manufacturing, circuit design, enterprise systems, database systems, graphics processing, computer security, search technologies, big data, mobile applications, communication protocols, smart devices, social media, and automated business infrastructure. Mr. Shen has experience in developing patent filing strategies, preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, providing opinions on patentability, invalidity or non-infringement with respect to intellectual property rights, conducting due diligence investigations, performing post-grant actions, providing litigation support, and other like services. Mr. Shen has extensive experience in helping Chinese clients on outbound work to the U.S. He also works closely with our Shanghai office serving American companies with their interests in China.
